SAMSON SIASIA APOLOGISES

Super Eagles Head Coach, Samson
Siasia, however issued an apology
to Nigerians. In a press statement,
Siasia said he and his team took
responsibility for the disappointing
outcome.
"We want to apologise to all
Nigerians. We have not qualified
for the Nations Cup and we take
responsibility as a team," Siasia
said.
He however said his team tried all
it could during the game.
"We did our best, we dominated
the game but we failed to take our
chances and we gave up a last
minute goal,'' the Coach said.
Disappointed Super Eagles' fans, on
Saturday in Abuja, showed their
bitterness by vandalising some
parts of the stadium and calling for
the removal of the Eagles' Coach,
Samson Siasia.
The match which was a qualifying
final round 'Group B' match for the
2012 African Nations Cup, was
played at the Abuja National
Stadium. The Eagles drew 2-2
against Guinea's Syli Nationale.
The Eagles' fans, who were enraged
at the abysmal performance of the
players, booed them off the pitch.
Some fans also made their way to
the stadium's VIP Section and broke
a glass window near the Media
Centre in a bid to express their
disappointment to the journalists
who were waiting for the post-
match conference.
It took the intervention of anti-riot
police officers to stop them from
entering into the VIP lounge.
"Siasia has failed us; he should just
go and give way before we fail to
qualify for the 2014 World Cup,'' an
irate fan said.
"It is clear that the players are not
happy with him. This is the result of
his decision to always go hard on
them," another fan said. "If he had
not had problems with Osaze
Odemwingie, Vincent Enyeama and
Mikel Obi, we could have had a
better team to beat Guinea.''
A projectile also hit the team bus as
the players left the stadium after
the game.
