A MONTH YEAR OLD BABY RECIEVES SALARY IN ZAMFARA STATE.

KANO (AFP) – A one-month old
baby, said to hold a diploma,
was on the Nigerian
government payroll, officials
have discovered, exposing the
levels to which corruption runs
country.
The name of the infant was
recently found on the payment
voucher of a local government
council in northern Nigeria
during an exercise to fish out
ghost employees from a bloated
workforce, Garba Gajam, justice
commissioner for Zamfara State
told AFP late Wednesday.
"In the on-going verification
exercise of the payrolls … in the
state we discovered that a
month-old baby was among the
employees of one local
government who is paid a
salary," Gajam said.
"What is even more astonishing
is that it was indicated in the
payroll that the infant holds an
ordinary national diploma," said
Gajam, revealing that the
discovery is a "widespread trend
in the local government service
where senior officials stuff
payrolls with the names of their
wives and children".
In August the name of a five-
month-old baby was found on
the payroll of another local
municipality, prompting an
investigation.
"And we have been receiving
amazing revelations which point
to the rot and abysmal level of
corruption at the local
government level," Gajam said.
Perpetrators will be have to
refund the siphoned funds and
face prosecution for
misappropriating public funds.

announced the birth of
their third daughter,
Lourdes.

The little girl was born at
4pm on Tuesday and
weighed 7lb 15oz, the
midfielder's spokesman
said.
Gerrard was present at
the birth and 'both mum
and baby are doing well',
he said.
The couple already have
two daughters, Lilly-Ella,
seven, and five-year-old
Lexie.

GLEE STAR'S FATHER STABBED TO DEATH.

The father of Glee actress
Charice Pempengco was
stabbed to death in the
Philippines after a run-in
with another man in a
grocery store, the Associated
Press reports.
Ricky Pempengco, 40, was
shopping in San Pedro
township when he bumped
into Angel Capili, who
allegedly stabbed Pembengco
in the chest and back with an
ice pick, said Laguna
province police chief, Senior
Supt. Gilbert Cruz.
Capili then fled the scene, and
a manhunt has since been
launched, with a reward of
20,000 pesos ($470) for
information leading to his
arrest.
According to Cruz, the killing
appeared random.
Charice Pempengco, 19, who
plays Sunshine Corazon on
Glee, was estranged from her
father.
"I want to thank my fans
from around the world for
their support and love at this
very difficult time for my
family and I," the singer said
in a statement. "We are all
very sad about this terrible
tragedy."
In an interview with Oprah
Winfrey in 2008, she recalls
being a 3-year-old girl and
recalls him threatening and
choking her mother. She says
the argument escalated and
remembers her father
pointing a shotgun at her
mother. "My dad was about
to shoot my mom, and I
couldn't do anything," she
told Oprah at the time.
After that incident, Charice
and her mother escaped. "We
left my dad, and after that, I
never saw him and I don't
want to see him," she said.
After learning of her father's
death, however, she canceled
a scheduled performance in
Singapore to fly back to the
Philippines and be with her
family after the tragedy.
"Last night, I was with
somebody that looked like
my dad," she Tweeted in
Tagalog and some English on
Monday night.
"I didn't know that my dad
was trying to make his
presence felt. I just want you
to know that we had a really
great relationship before all
the trouble started. My
mother didn't know that
when I was young, my father
told me that he wanted me
to be a soldier because I'm a
fearless woman. I loved him,
and I will still love him. He's
still my dad after all."
